Give the President his Due!
HAPPY PRESIDENTS DAY!
First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be save and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4) NASB
Thriving as a wife and mom requires the ability to juggle numerous tasks at once. Motherhood is not for the fainthearted. I can’t fathom the juggling requirements of a government official, much less a president. Just the thought of running a country gives me hives.
I am so thankful people in America are willing to work, often tirelessly and unappreciated, in our governmental offices. Many sacrifice time and money to benefit local cities, states and our country. We may not always agree with each decision that is made, but we are blessed to live in a country which, to a large degree, runs smoothly because selfless leaders lead.
I am saddened anytime there is a critical, judgmental attitude toward any of our leaders. Some people feel a need to sling vitriol everywhere. Even worse, many do not have the facts, yet feel free to sabotage someone else’s life.
Most of us will not enter the pollical arena, so how can we have a positive impact? First and foremost we can vote. I read recently that over 15 million Christians aren’t registered to vote. How can our voices be heard if we do not vote?
Second, we can pray. Are we not called by God to love and pray for those in authority over us? Within our prayer time we can declare that evil will be exposed, and truth and justice will prevail.
Third, we can make certain we speak truth and not our opinions. We can help stop the cycle of hatred and ugliness on social media by not participating. We can, instead, respectfully voice concerns in the correct format on the correct forum. Write a letter of concern to your local officials. Attend political meetings in your district and give voice to your desires and opinions.
Finally, research what the candidates stand for: What is his or her beliefs about marriage? Is he or she prolife? Is he or she supportive of Israel? What type of health education does he or she believe should be taught in our schools? Let biblical truth lead your voter finger.
What would America look like right now if every Christian voted as Scripture guides, prayed as God requests and stayed out of the mudslinging game? I suspect we might all be in a better place. I encourage you, not just on Presidents Day, but every day, to give our President his due: respect, love and prayer. Whether he or she was your candidate of choice or not. We need to set the example for the world.
Every person is to be in subjection to the governing authorities. For there is not authority except from God, and those which exist are established by God. Therefore whoever resists authority has opposed the ordinance of God; and they who have opposed will receive condemnation upon themselves. (Romans 13:1-2) NASB
